Miss Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has announced that the fourth edition of its annual beauty pageant will be held on Friday.

The initiative, which promotes beauty with a purpose and empowers young women to take up space in communities, will take place at the Hilton Hotel, with organisers promising a glamorous event.

This year’s pageant patron, Hilde Shindodola, says the event will feature up to ten young women competing for the main title.

“Miss NGO Namibia has become an iconic event in our country, gathering aspiring young women from all walks of life to showcase their beauty, intelligence and grace,” says Shindongola, who adds that the pageant is not only about physical appearance, but also about participants’ overall development, fostering their self-esteem, communication skills and leadership qualities.

According to Shindondola, the live event is expected to draw a large audience of industry professionals, participants’ families and beauty enthusiasts.

She said the runway competition, talent displays, question-and-answer sessions and the crowning of the beauty queen will be the main attraction.

Maria Nepembe-Amunyela, a film director and local celebrity, has been chosen as the main judge for this year’s event.

There will also be musical performances by various artists.

“As a culture, the Miss NGO Namibia top ten finalists receive comprehensive training on an evidence-based curriculum that covers sexual reproductive health, as well as prevention and management of adolescent pregnancy,” Shindondola explains.

She adds that this year’s comprehensive training took place in June at Otjisazu Guest Farm at Okahandja and that the ladies then went on to deliver the curriculum in their respective communities and schools for the benefit of the nation.

Interviews were held on 26 June at Von Bach Dam Resort.

This year’s event is sponsored by Peace Corps Namibia, Von Bach Dam Resort and Otjisazu Guest Farm.

The event is expected to begin with the red carpet activities at 17h00, followed by the main highlights at 19h00. Tickets are available for N$200.
