Former teacher charged with molestation

A FORMER teacher of the Ecumenical Community School at Berseba village in the South, accused of indecently assaulting a 17-year-old pupil, appeared in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Simon Fleermuis, the son of Chief Johannes Fleermuis of the Berseba Goliath faction, was not asked to plead to charges of indecent assault, attempted rape and assault by threat.
Magistrate Philanda Blockstein-Christiaan postponed the case to April 6 for further Police investigation.
Fleermuis remains free on bail after his bail of N$1 000 was extended.
The alleged molestation of the girl happened at the school’s flats for teachers on November 15 last year.
It is alleged that Fleermuis had undressed in front of the girl after calling her into his bedroom while her friends were waiting in his sitting room.
Fleermuis then allegedly masturbated in front of the girl. He allegedly kept the girl in the room for close to an hour.
His temporary teaching contract was not renewed this year, Karas Deputy Education Director Cecillia Mostert confirmed on Friday.
