Former pupils disrupt Augustineum classes

A REIGN of terror by three former pupils of Augustineum Secondary School in Windhoek which included disrupting classes and causing mischief as well as vandalising a teacher’s car came to an abrupt end last week when Police were called in to take control of the situation.

The situation began earlier this year when three pupils were absent from school for more than fourteen consecutive days during the first school term, and were as a result removed from the school register. Augustineum principal Beatrice Losper said that the three former pupils’ parents were informed at the time that their children had been removed from the school register following their absence and that they were no longer registered learners at the school. However following their dismissal the three learners continued to turn up at school from the start of the second term. Losper said that the former Augustineum learners arrived at school every day from the start of the second term but they never attended any classes. Instead, the three learners walked around on the school premises, disrupting classes, causing mischief and being a general nuisance, Losper said. The Augustineum principal said the trio were apprehended by the school’s security guards on several occasions and were escorted off the property, but they would be back the following day.Losper said that the situation escalated dramatically last Thursday, when one of the three former Augustineum pupils brought a screwdriver to school and used to it vandalise a vehicle belonging to one of the school’s teachers.’We decided to contact the police after that incident and luckily they apprehended one of the three and he was taken away,’ Losper said. The Augustineum Principal said that the three learners had not been back to the school since last week, and said that she hoped the situation remained that way.
