Football tops UK singles chart

LONDON – World Cup songs held firm at the top of the UK singles chart despite England’s less than inspiring performances, while Oasis topped the albums tally with a hits package, the Official Charts Company said on Sunday.

Grime rap star Dizzee Rascal and comedian James Corden held the number one slot from last week with ‘Shout’, their unofficial World Cup anthem, from which royalties are going to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.Creeping up one place to No 2 was Somali-born Canadian rapper K’naan with ‘Wavin’ Flag’, another World Cup-themed song.Kylie Minogue returned to the singles chart with ‘All The Lovers’ at No 4, while Example with ‘Kickstarts’ at No 3 and Robyn with ‘Dancing On My Own’ at No 8 were the other two new top-10 entries.Oasis topped the albums chart with ‘Time Flies’, a collection spanning their 15-year career, while another new entry, this time from the cast of US musical high school drama ‘Glee’, took the No 2 spot with ‘Glee – The Music – Journey to Regionals’, which is currently No 1 in the United States.- Nampa-Reuters
