FIFA Medical Committee chairman Jiri Dvorak arrives in Namibia today to implement the Football for Health program. The program is part of the Win in Africa with Africa Fifa initiative and that educates youth in a football on how improve their knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviour towards different illnesses.
Dvorak will be involved in discussion and interaction with various high-level officials from the ministries of health, sport as well as education in his two-day visit to Namibia. He is also expected to visit the Fifa’s Football for Hope centre at the Katutura Youth Complex before returning to Switzerland on Saturday.Fifa sees football, the one passion that unites all African countries, as the most effective, feasible and low-cost tool in Africa’s fight for health.Playing football, ambitiously or just for fun, is healthy and able to prevent or reduce risk factors for many diseases and based on these findings, the Fifa Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC) decided to combine the direct health effects of the game with its unique power in education and prevention, and create a comprehensive health programme. The programme has already been implemented in counties such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.
