FNB launches second schools’ sports festival

FIRST National Bank of Namibia (FNB) yesterday launched the second edition of the FNB/Windhoek High Schools’ Sports Festival, due this weekend.

The festival is an initiative in conjunction with the Janine and Suzelle Davin Sports Trust, at which various Namibian and South African high schools will compete in various sports codes.
The Namibian high schools that will participate include Windhoek High School, Windhoek Gymnasium, Walvis Bay High, Jan Möhr, St Paul’s High School and the Gobabis and Tsumeb Private Schools, while the SA teams will come from the Free State and Cape Town.
FNB spokesman Dixon Norval said the objective of the festival is to allow young Namibian sportsmen and women to test their skills against competitors from across the country, and even from South Africa, at a festive event.
‘We also share the organisers’ philosophy that participating Namibian schools should receive the same support and incentives as those offered to the visiting South African schools.
Hence, it is a community event and while winning is always great, it is more important to be able to participate with pride for your school,’ he said.
He called on the public to attend the festival in their thousands.
