ALL roads lead to the Erongo Region this weekend where FNB will present its second FNB Rugby Classic Clashes match in Walvis Bay and its first-ever FNB Soccer Classic Clash in Swakopmund on Saturday.
Walvis Bay High School will host De Duine in the FNB Rugby Classic Clash at 11h45, while Swakopmund Secondary School, better known as SSS, will play host to Coastal High School at the Mondesa Sport Grounds, with the main match set for 14h00.
‘The two schools have been asking FNB to bring the FNB Rugby Classic Clashes to Walvis Bay and De Duine and Walvis Bay High will prove whether the standard of rugby in the Erongo region is high,’ said FNB’s corporate communications manager, Cassius Moetie.
He applauded Mariental High School and PK de Villiers for the exceptional performance and sportsmanship demonstrated in Keetmanshoop last week.
De Duine and Walvis Bay High both have strong and competitive players.
‘This FNB Rugby Classic Clash is surely a derby, our learners are excited and we have organised a full programme for the day starting at 09h00,’ said Willie van Zyl, sport organiser of Walvis Bay High.
He added that his team are the favourites, giving credit to the good team of De Duine ‘which is the feeding team for the Kudus Rugby Club, playing in the Namibia Premier Rugby League’.
The schools are not only rivals on the rugby field, they also compete academically to produce the best Grade 12s.
In Swakopmund on the same day, Swakopmund Secondary School [SSS] will play host to Coastal High in the first-ever FNB Soccer Classic Clashes match.
‘It is expected that all soccer lovers will flock to the Mondesa Sport Ground for yet another derby between the two schools,’ said Moetie.
SSS Headmaster Leon Visagie said over 1 000 pupils, teachers, parents and other Swakopmunders are expected to attend.
‘It will not be the first time we play Coastal High.
They have a strong and competitive team, but we have beaten them every time we played. This Saturday will be no exception, this time round we will not beat them, but demolish them instead,’ Visagie promised.
SSS has 800 pupils and they all are fired up for the match which is set to bring out the best from the young players.
‘We have planned a jam-packed programme and Gazza is also on the line-up to perform as part of the fun-filled FNB Soccer Classic Clash of which the main FNB Classic Clashes match starts at 14h00,’ he confirmed. The first series of the Classic Clashes started in Keetmanshoop last weekend.
