Five injured in head-on collision at Ongwediva

Five people were injured in a head-on collision between two pickups on the main road between Ongwediva and Oshakati on Monday morning, Oshana police spokesperson chief inspector Thomas Aiyambo has reported.

Aiyambo said the crash involved two pickups, driven by a 40-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, respectively.

The authorities reported that the woman was travelling from Oshakati towards Ongwediva when another vehicle allegedly entered the lane in which she was driving.

Trying to avoid a crash with the other vehicle, the woman allegedly lost control of her vehicle, which crossed into the lane of oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision with the other pickup, Aiyambo said.

He said both drivers sustained injuries and are reported to be in a stable condition.

Three passengers in the woman’s vehicle, all seated in the front, also sustained injuries.

Among them was a 38-year-old woman whose left leg was fractured and who also sustained an open wound to her lower lip, as well as chest pain, Aiyambo said.

Two five-year-old children were also injured.

The five injured people were transported to Oshakati State Hospital, where they are receiving medical care.

The police confirmed that no fatalities were recorded.
