Finnish CEOs build playground in Katutura

SIX chief executive officers of companies in Finland, together with three local volunteers, recently revamped and upgraded the playground at the Otjomuise Community Centre in Katutura.

The six-week project was part of a leadership training course offered by ‘Scrub Brush’, a Finnish company.
Course participants finance a project in a developing country and also do physical labour on the project.
The link between Scrub Brush and the Otjomuise Community Centre was forged by the director of the People’s Education, Assistance & Counselling for Empowerment (PEACE) Centre.
The PEACE Centre is an NGO providing counselling services to survivors of trauma and violence in Namibia.
Volunteers have been running the Otjomuise Community Centre since 2006. They offer an OVC and after-school programme and a pre-school that was started last year.
