Fighting polio

The first round of this year’s National Immunisation Days is being held countrywide until tomorrow. The second round will be from July 19 to 21.

During the first round, oral polio vaccine and vitamin A supplementation are administered to children under five years. During the second round, children will receive their second dose of oral polio vaccine along with de-worming medication to improve their health and nutritional status. Namibia has had no polio outbreak since 2006, but remains at risk due to outbreaks in neighboring countries. In the photo, Sulia Mutota (3) receives her oral polio vaccine and vitamin A drops.
