THE Independence weekend ended on a sour note for the wife of a prominent Walvis Bay businessman.
Gerda Bastos was robbed in her vehicle on Monday afternoon. The culprits stole about N$2 000 and a credit card.Bastos told The Namibian that she had taken her housekeeper to Kuisebmund after lunch as she did every day.On her way back, a white bakkie overtook her.Ten youngsters in the back of the vehicle were gesturing at her.”I thought they were waving at me as I know a lot of people. They stopped about 100 metres in front of me and indicated to me to stop as well.”Bastos said one youngster came to her window and started talking to her to divert her attention.Another opened the passenger door very quietly.”I was holding onto my bag but the youngster was too strong for me and he grabbed it out of my hand.”Bastos said she was so overcome by what was happening that she did not look at the bakkie’s registration number.”I used to feel safe in Kuisebmund and did not really expect this to happen,” she said. She received a call early yesterday from car dealer asking if she had lost her handbag. An employee had found it at the Single Quarters. The cash and a credit card were missing.Bastos said there were many witnesses and said if anyone had taken note of the number plate to please report it to the Police.
