Fake war vet registration forms

OSHAKATI – Some Government officials in the Omusati Region are distributing registration forms for war veterans during working hours, allegedly using Government facilities.

This was said by Veterans’ Affairs Minister Ngarikutuke Tjiriange when he met with Swapo Party leaders in the Oshana Region at Oshakati over the weekend. Tjiriange, who is also the Swapo Party Secretary General, told the meeting that he was going to confront the officials’ ministers on the issue.”We cannot have Swapo Government officials confusing Swapo people,” Tjiriange told delegates to the meeting, who included Oshana Regional Governor Clemens Kashuupulwa. He said that the registration forms were not from his office, as his office was still putting in place the necessary structures. He said the newly established Ministry still had to be staffed and funded through the 2007-08 Appropriation Bill.According to Tjiriange, an Act of Parliament to define who is a war veteran would also have to be tabled and passed. He said a statutory body for war veterans, which should serve as a link between his Ministry and veterans, needed to be put in place if the Ministry was to achieve its objectives.Tjiriange said Government-issued registration forms for war veterans would be available at all regional councils’ offices and Swapo Party offices when the time comes for the registration of veterans.Journalists were ordered to leave the meeting after the opening remarks.NampaTjiriange, who is also the Swapo Party Secretary General, told the meeting that he was going to confront the officials’ ministers on the issue.”We cannot have Swapo Government officials confusing Swapo people,” Tjiriange told delegates to the meeting, who included Oshana Regional Governor Clemens Kashuupulwa. He said a statutory body for war veterans, which should serve as a link between his Ministry and veterans, needed to be put in place if the Ministry was to achieve its objectives.Tjiriange said Government-issued registration forms for war veterans would be available at all regional councils’ offices and Swapo Party offices when the time comes for the registration of veterans.Journalists were ordered to leave the meeting after the opening remarks.Nampa
