EXCELSIOR’S Annual Club Championships took place last weekend and a high standard of gymnastics was the order of the day.
In the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, section Marquerite Pickering scored a 9.60 out of a possible 10 on the bar and a 9.30 on the beam on level 1. Kirsten Chiappini scored a 9.30 on the floor and Nicole Schmidt an 8.78 on vault.In the level 2 it was Duré Boshoff who scored 9.00 on the vault, Sharifa Bock 9.25 on bar and Renodine Groeneveld scored 9.30 on beam and floor.The level 1 and 2 All Around Club Champion was Kirsten Chaippini with an average of 9.19 Simone Nel in the level 3 section scored 9.05 on vault, Shawna Pieterse got the highest mark of 8.75 on bar, Kelly du Plessis 9.60 on beam and Daphne Nel 8.95 on floor.In the level 4 section it was a walkover for Larisa Oosthuizen as she scored the highest marks on all four apparatus.On vault 8.93, 9.60 on bar, 9.40 on beam and 9 on floor.She is also the level 3 &4 All Around Club Champion with an average of 9.23.In the level 5 section it was Elmarize Oosthuizen who walked away with the highest marks on all 4 apparatus.9.25 on vault, 9.50 on bars, 9.30 on beam and 9.20 on floor.Level 6 Gillian Naibas scored 8.88 on vault, 8.60 on beam, 8.40 on floor and 7.40 on bar.In the level 7 section Rhonell Sepiso achieved 9.65 the highest mark on vault as well as a 8.20 on beam, Izahn van Zyl 8.65 on bar and Laetitia du Plessis a 9.00 on floor.Elmarize Oosthuizen received the trophy for level 5 – 7 All Around Club Champion with an average score of 9.31.In the level 10 section, Simone van der Hoeven achieved the highest marks on all four apparatus, vault 9.55, 11.40 on bar, 10.60 on beam and 12.20 on floor.She was awarded the Level 8 – 10 All Around Club Champion trophy with a total of 43.75.In the Senior Olympic Section Kimberly-Ann van Zyl was placed 1st overall.She achieved the highest scores on bar 11.70, beam 12.70 and floor 12.70 with Chloè Hansen achieving the highest mark of 13.00 on vault.Kimberly-Ann van Zyl received the Senior Olympic All Around Club Champion trophy with a total score of 49.80.For the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, from level 1-8 section, gymnasts can achieve bonus for their routines, the reason for the very high scores achieved.Daniel-David Francis achieved an average of 9.70 on floor, Giovanni Jordaan and Jean-Pierre Gous also a 9.70 on vault, a 9.65 by Giovanni Jordaan on parallel bar and on high bar we had three gymnasts with a score of 9.40, namely Johann Serfontein, Daniel-David Francis and Jean-Pierre Gous.The level 1 All Around Club Champion trophy went to Giovanni Jordaan with an average score of 9.41.In the level 2 – 4 section it was Marc Fourie who was award the All Around Club Champion trophy.Juan Lamprecht of level 2 scored a 9.25 on floor and 10.00 on parallel bars, Sebastiaan Nevelsteen of level 4 scored 8.80 on pommelhorse, 10.10 on high bar and 9.20 on high bars.Gerhard du Plessis level 2 scored 9.90 on vault and Marc Fourie also scored a 9.20 on high bars.Riz Zimmermann scored an average of 9.16 in the level 6 section and received the All Around Club Champion trophy for level 5-8.He achieved the highest score on floor (8.90), pommelhorse (8.70), vault (10.00).Joshua van Tonder received the highest scores on high bar (9.40), parallel bars (9.40) and on high bar (9.30).In the level 9-10 section it was JR Franks walked away with the highest scores on all six apparatus, as well as with the All Around Club Champions trophy with a total score of 73.75.Excelsiors gymnasts are all well prepared by the Juliana Simonfi (Club coach and National coach) and Vasile Bogdan (club coach and national coach) for the up and coming NGF gymnastics season which starts at the weekend.Kirsten Chiappini scored a 9.30 on the floor and Nicole Schmidt an 8.78 on vault.
