Hillary Dux Imbuwa has earned honorary president status from the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) for his exceptional leadership and contributions.
This was announced by the NVF yesterday.
Imbuwa was conferred the honorary title by the NVF board, as provided for in the NVF’s constitution.
He headed the NVF executive for six years until last week, when the sport body elected new leadership at Katima Mulilo.
Among other efforts, Imbuwa is credited with enhancing NVF governance structures, championing volleyball development and improving the sport’s visibility nationwide.
“Despite facing numerous challenges, Imbuwa distinguished himself as the NVF president, leading a period of remarkable growth and development for volleyball in Namibia,” noted the NVF in a recent statement.
His time in office has been characterised by a series of notable achievements and he played a pivotal role in strengthening the NVF’s governance frameworks, ensuring transparency and accountability within the federation leading to increased trust and confidence among stakeholders, the federation noted.
“Through various initiatives and outreach programmes, Imbuwa has successfully popularised volleyball across Namibia, elevating the sport’s profile and encouraging widespread participation at all levels.”
Consequently, these milestones saw volleyball being recategorised from a Category C development sport code to a Category B priority sport code by the Namibia Sport Commission, noted the NVF.
“Imbuwa has been instrumental in establishing and expanding volleyball development programmes, with the establishment of nine volleyball associations offering young athletes the opportunity to develop their skills and pursue their passion for the sport.”
Under Imbuwa’s leadership, the NVF not only enhanced its national footprint but made notable inroads internationally, reflecting the federation’s progress and elevated status in the national sport landscape, the federation noted.
“The NVF significantly increased its participation in regional and international beach volleyball tournaments, providing Namibian athletes with greater exposure and competitive experience on the global stage.”
According to the NVF, Imbuwa oversaw the improvement and creation of partnerships with regional stakeholders for volleyball facilities in various regions. This has made the sport more accessible to a broader segment of the population as these facilities have become training grounds and have hosted numerous successful events.
