An open letter to the municipality of Gobabis.
IN a democracy, as so often stated by the political wannabes, it is supposed to be a case of ‘a government by the people for the people’. In the case of the Gobabis municipality, this saying must be long forgotten it seems as you enter Epako and are greeted by dark houses, no power and no water for household usage.
In contrast to this scene, picture the lush green grass surrounded by a fishpond at the entrance to the municipal office. The fish in their pond certainly have more to look forward to than the residents of Epako. Not to mention the klipvloere and the fine décor while the very people after whose well-being this office ought to look out for linger around in dark, cold, shady houses with no drinking water. What is this office doing to assist? Repossessing old people’s houses and thereby contributing to the growing street populace?
The institution seems to have traded the lights in the houses of its people for those on the streets. No wonder the street kid numbers are growing so fast.
What about the dust-ridden streets? Is the cough still TB or perhaps as a result of the dust of the municipal streets? Until when are you going to water the streets with our hard earned money? Have you notice that we don’t plant anything anymore? No veggie garden or fruit trees since we have to foot the bill for your fishpond and street watering.
Why don’t we have benches in the park? How long do you want our kids to queue for 3 swings? Even Witvlei has made their residents’ needs a priority.
It’s a shame.
