Emvula rejects rumours of Walvis CEO job

NAMIBIA’S Ambassador to Ethiopia, Wilfred Emvula, has dismissed rumours that is set to become the next CEO of the Walvis Bay Town Council.

Emvula’s denial follows rumours doing the rounds in municipal corridors and reported in some local media. Since Augustinus Katiti resigned as CEO at the end of March, the General Manager of Finance, Muronga Haingura, has acted in the position. The vacancy has been advertised in newspapers for some time.Haingura was initially asked to serve as acting CEO until the end of July, by which time a new CEO would have taken over. The Manager of Communications at the Walvis Bay Municipality, Kevin Adams, told The Namibian that Council had in the meantime decided to keep Haingura in the position until the end of the year.He said several applications had been received but declined to say whether a suitable candidate had been found.Asked whether it was true that Emvula had been earmarked as Walvis Bay’s next CEO, Adams said: “No”.When The Namibian contacted Emvula in Ethiopia, he said he had heard about the rumours because he remained in touch with what was happening in his hometown. He said he was disappointed that other newspapers had not contacted him for comment before publishing speculation that he would be the next CEO.”I have no intention, nor have I made an attempt to become the next CEO for the Walvis Bay Town Council. If I had, I would have submitted my application to the Council, as others did,” he said.”Walvis Bay is my home and I do have its interest at heart.I don’t necessarily want to work at Walvis Bay, but I want to serve Walvis Bay at other levels as I did in the past.I am a politician and a community leader. That is how I regard and see myself.”Since Augustinus Katiti resigned as CEO at the end of March, the General Manager of Finance, Muronga Haingura, has acted in the position. That is how I regard and see myself.”
