THE stage is set for the long-awaited FNB Rugby Classic Clashes match between the two Afrikaans Private schools, Elnatan Private School and Windhoek Afrikaans Private School, better known as WAP, locking horns in the return leg on Saturday.
The FNB Rugby Classic Clashes match will take place at the Wanderers Fields and WAP as the host school has planned a jam-packed programme starting with a performance of pom-pom girls at 09h30. The schools will field their netball teams at 10h00 and the Under 14 rugby teams at 11h00. The main FNB Rugby Classic Clashes match starts at 12h15.The ‘People’s Republic of Katutura’ will be on fire today when the senior soccer teams of Jan Jonker and Immanuel Shifidi Senior Secondary Schools, both located in the heart of Katutura, will meet in their second FNB Soccer Classic Clash at the Katutura Youth Complex. ‘The battlefield of the FNB Soccer Classic Clash for the two neighbouring Katutura high schools will also showcase pom-pom girls starting at 08h00. The teachers of Shifidi and Jan Jonker will open proceedings with a match at 08h45 followed by the U15 soccer match at 10h25. The main FNB Soccer Classic Clashes match starts at 11h30 when the senior teams of Shifidi and Jan Jonker square off, while there will also be a girls soccer match between the two schools,’ FNB’s Manager for Corporate Communications, Cassius Moetie said. The team manager of Jan Jonker, Moi Nambili promised Shifidi another devastating defeat following their convincing 5-1 victory against Shifidi last year. ‘Shifidi better be prepared this year because we will be brutal and we will double the score to 10 goals to 2. I have our team captain, James Nailongo, who plays for Namibia Premier League club, Ramblers, as well as several other top class players who regularly feature in the Khomas U17 league, he said. Shifidi’s sport organiser, Martin Matsuib laughed off the threats by Nambili.’Jan Janker is in for a big surprise. Although Jan Jonker won the FNB Soccer Classic Clash last year, we beat them academically. Our players are mentally very strong and we will exploit their shortcomings to beat them on the soccer field this year. We will make a clean sweep in all four matches to be played by teachers, U15 boys, our girls’ soccer team and our senior soccer team as well,’ Matsuib warned.WAP v Elnatan at Wanderers Rugby will be the focus at the Wanderers field where WAP will take on Elnatan from Stampriet. ‘We are prepared and ready to take on Elnatan. We are currently building a strong team and I am happy with the progress of WAP’s rugby team,’ WAP’s sport organiser Kobus Esbagh said. Elnatan’s netball coach, Kariena Joubert said everybody in Stampriet was excited about the forthcoming FNB Rugby Classic Clashes match.’This is one carnival event of FNB which is a priority on our school’s annual calendar. Elnatan overpowered WAP 70-10 in their inaugural FNB Classic Clashes rugby match last year.
