THE Northern Regions Electricity Distribution Company (Nored) increased its electricity tariffs by 13,2 per cent from yesterday.
Nored’s Chief Executive Officer, Gotlieb Amanyanga, said the company had decided to increase its tariff from 79 to 92 cents per unit, as the national power utility, NamPower, has increased its electricity tariffs. “In view of the Electricity tariff increase by the National Utility, NamPower, it is necessary that Nored adjusts its tariffs accordingly, and Nored is thus hereby announcing an average increase of 13,2 per cent effective from the 1st July 2008 as approved by the Electricity Control Board,” said Amanyanga. He said Nored was proud to keep the increase below the bulk supplier (NamPower’s) average increase as well as the current inflation rate.Nored is the main electricity supplier in northern regions including Caprivi, Kavango, Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Omusati and Kunene. However Oshakati town in Oshana Region does not fall under its jurisdiction, as Oshakati Premier Electric (OPE) supplies electricity to this town.”In view of the Electricity tariff increase by the National Utility, NamPower, it is necessary that Nored adjusts its tariffs accordingly, and Nored is thus hereby announcing an average increase of 13,2 per cent effective from the 1st July 2008 as approved by the Electricity Control Board,” said Amanyanga. However Oshakati town in Oshana Region does not fall under its jurisdiction, as Oshakati Premier Electric (OPE) supplies electricity to this town.
