Elderly couple assaulted in farm robbery

THE wife of elderly farmer Daniel Mori was left seriously injured by two unidentified men who assaulted and robbed them at their farm Groendoring in the Klein Karas district on Saturday.

Police Chief Inspector Bennie Groenewald said Mori’s wife sustained multiple injuries after being attacked with a sharp object by the masked robbers.Groenewald described the woman’s condition as stable. She was admitted to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital. According to Groene-wald, the two men ransacked couple’s house and stole N$3 750 in cash before fleeing in the couple’s Toyota Hilux bakkie. The bakkie was found abandoned in the veld near Keetmanshoop, said Groenewald. Groenewald said the couple were watching TV when they heard a knock on the door at around 20h00. When Mori’s wife opened the door, the two men armed with a rifle attacked her. They entered the house and beat Mori in the face before tying him up and locking him up in one of the rooms. Groenewald said Mori phoned the Police after he had managed to loosen the ropes and escaped through a window. No arrests have been made.Groenewald said farm attacks in the Karas Region are not common.
