WINDHOEK – The Ministry of Education’s annual sport tournament kicked off in Windhoek yesterday under the theme ‘Uniting Education through Sports’.
The event is attended by Education Ministry’s staff members from all 13 regions of the country, who will compete in various sport disciplines over four days.Officially opening the sports event at the Khomasdal Sports Stadium, Deputy Minister of Education Dr David Namwandi said the event is intended to build a strong commitment to the development of sport in Namibia, while enhancing the physical development of the MoE staff members. He said the social event is also aimed at enhancing team building, fostering positive interactions, and improving working relationships between the regions and the MoE head office.’Certainly, each one of you will test your skills and talents against your opponents from other teams, but I encourage you to also make the most of this wonderful opportunity to showcase the best sporting talent and spirit of comradeship, brotherhood and sisterhood,’ he stressed.According to the deputy minister, sports make one stronger, healthier and teaches people to accept defeat and celebrate victory, saying these lessons later become building blocks of success in life.Team building, he said, is one of the goals of this event, during which colleagues learn how to develop positive work relationships and communicate openly, and appreciate that different strengths from several people can be combined and used to benefit the whole team.Namwandi indicated that combining different skills can also lead to increased creativity, and the support systems will be stronger, as colleagues will feel more comfortable relying on each other.’In taking part in this event, I want teams to remember that there is more to it than winning.I am encouraging you to get together, have fun, exercise and get to know each other,’ he urged. – Nampa
