Eden Park to get facelift for World Cup

AUCKLAND – Seating at Eden Park will be increased to 60 000 from 47 500 as part of a refurbishment of the stadium for the Rugby World Cup final in 2011.

The renovations at New Zealand’s largest sports stadium include a new two-tier East Stand to replace the existing terraces and enhanced landscaping around the stadium. Last year, after the World Cup was awarded to New Zealand, government officials said a new waterfront stadium might be built, suggesting it might be a better option than refurbishing Eden Park, which has been the home of New Zealand rugby since 1925.The work is expected to be completed by late 2010.Nampa-APLast year, after the World Cup was awarded to New Zealand, government officials said a new waterfront stadium might be built, suggesting it might be a better option than refurbishing Eden Park, which has been the home of New Zealand rugby since 1925.The work is expected to be completed by late 2010.Nampa-AP
