A MAN was kicked out of a polling station at Okahandja yesterday after he allegedly tried to vote with a colour photocopy of a voter’s card.
The incident took place around 14h00 at the Okahandja town hall polling station.
The man walked into the polling station and wanted to vote with his photocopied voter’s card when the presiding officer intervened and told him that it was illegal to vote with such a card. The man interrupted her, saying that he had voted with the same card in last year’s presidential and National Assembly elections. The presiding officer then took the card from the man, but had to give it back since the man became unruly and the Police had to escort him out because he refused to leave. ECN Commissioner Shafimana Ueitele was called to talk to the agitated man and told him that he was not going to get his card back and that he could face criminal charges for what he did. The man then started complaining about the N$30 he had paid to photocopy the card, before the Police escorted him out of the polling station.
