ECB sees no significant impact on growth from London attacks

FRANKFURT – European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said yesterday he did not expect the terrorist attacks in London would have any significant impact on growth in the 12-country eurozone or in Britain.

“We do not trust at this stage that these events will have any significant impact,” Trichet told a news conference here after the ECB held its key interest rates steady at 2,0 per cent for the 25th month in a row. Similar questions had been posed at the time of the Madrid bombings in March 2004, but experience had shown that those attacks did not have much of an impact either, Trichet said.”At the time, we had the sentiment that (a significant impact) was not the case.”I would say that it is also our sentiment now,” Trichet said.-Nampa-AFPSimilar questions had been posed at the time of the Madrid bombings in March 2004, but experience had shown that those attacks did not have much of an impact either, Trichet said.”At the time, we had the sentiment that (a significant impact) was not the case.”I would say that it is also our sentiment now,” Trichet said.-Nampa-AFP
