Five days after being arrested at Hosea Kutako International Airport on a drug smuggling charge, Angolan citizen Ditomena Nzuzi Jisela has managed to slip out of Police custody unnoticed.
Jisela (27) was supposed to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge resulting from the alleged recovery of 17 capsules of cocaine, weighing some 200 grams, from her digestive system following her arrest. It is suspected that she had swallowed the cocaine during a visit to Sao Paulo in Brazil in order to smuggle the drugs into Namibia. Jisela, who was one of six Angolan citizens to be arrested at the airport last week after they allegedly entered Namibia with cocaine inside their bodies, was supposed to be kept at the holding cells of the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Lüderitz Street before a scheduled court appearance on Monday afternoon. When she was supposed to be taken to court, it was noticed that she had disappeared from the holding cells, where female detainees are normally not locked up behind bars, but kept in a reception area where they are separated from male detainees.
