THE man wanted in connection with a double murder at Mariental over the weekend turned himself in to Police on Sunday.
Salmon Nakale (30), wanted in connection with the murders of two women, Rebecca Katana and her sister Lucia Erastus, was taken into custody, the Hardap Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Kobus Meyer, said yesterday. Meyer said Nakale was arrested after he instructed his brother to inform the Police of his whereabouts. Police found Nakale in the veld near where he had abandoned his car after the shooting on Saturday, said Meyer. It is alleged that Nakale, in a jealous rage, shot dead his 22-year-old girlfriend and mother of his child, Rebecca Katana, and her 31-year-old sister, Lucia Erastus, on Saturday afternoon at the town’s Ombilli informal settlement. Katana died instantly of a shot to the chest, while Lucia Erastus died of multiple gunshot wounds in the Mariental State Hospital a few hours later. Nakale is set to appear in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court today on murder charges. luqman@namibian.com.na
