Dogs take better care of babies: Hakaye

JOHN Hakaye, the regional councillor for Okalongo constituency in the Omusati Region, says it is disturbing that some parents do not want to take care of their children.

Hakaye, who is a Swapo MP in the National Council (NC), said it is such parents who force their children to live on the street. “Even wild and domesticated animals care for their babies, yet we humans created what is today referred to as street kids,” said Hakaye. He said when he visited Kenya recently he was moved when he saw a dog adopt a newborn baby who was abandoned by its mother. The dog took the baby to her den and cared for it along with her puppies, he said.”There is something wrong with the human race,” said Hakaye. He was speaking in the NC during debate on a report by the NC Standing Committee on Gender, Youth and Information on the plight of street children.Swapo’s Hilma Nicanor said children became street children because of circumstances such as socio-economic problems, poverty and lack of love from their parents. She said these problems cannot be addressed without dealing with the parents of these children.”Even wild and domesticated animals care for their babies, yet we humans created what is today referred to as street kids,” said Hakaye. She said these problems cannot be addressed without dealing with the parents of these children.
