Diabetes Day: get tested!

TOMORROW is International Diabetes Day.
In Windhoek, people can go to the Paramount Healthcare Centre today and tomorrow for free diabetes screening from 09h00 to 16h30.

Diabetics can also receive free advice on their illness there. Everyone is also welcome to join NADEC (the Namibia Diabetes Education Centre) and Paramount Healthcare Centre in the five-kilometre Fun Walk for Diabetes at 18h00 tomorrow. Registration is from 16h30 at the Paramount Healthcare Centre and no entry fee is payable. This is the second time that a fun walk for diabetes will be held. Paramount Healthcare Centre launched the Centre in 2008 to teach people living with diabetes how to make the necessary lifestyle changes.Diabetes is a serious but controllable disorder. Undetected, untreated or poorly controlled diabetes can result in serious complications such as heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure.Globally more people are dying from diabetes complications (such as heart disease) than from AIDS. The Mission of NADEC is to enable Namibians living with diabetes to manage their health to the best of their abilities, to allow them to make choices and take actions based on informed judgment, and to enhance their quality of life while preventing complications.
