Desert Express rape case referred to Regional Court

TWO separate charges of rape against a former waiter on a luxury tourist train have been referred to the Swakopmund and Otjiwarongo Regional Courts respectively.

Trevor Glen Pieterse (21) of Windhoek has to appear in the Otjiwarongo Regional Court on Thursday and in the Swakopmund Regional Court on Friday following a decision by the Prosecutor-General to prosecute him on both charges. At Swakopmund Pieterse stands accused of raping a Japanese tourist on board the Desert Express train in August last year.After his release on N$800 bail in October, he was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, who is related to him, at Grootfontein in January.On his first appearance at the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court he was also found guilty of theft and sentenced to 18 months.He is still serving the sentence.At Swakopmund Pieterse stands accused of raping a Japanese tourist on board the Desert Express train in August last year.After his release on N$800 bail in October, he was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, who is related to him, at Grootfontein in January.On his first appearance at the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court he was also found guilty of theft and sentenced to 18 months.He is still serving the sentence.
