NURSING colleges in Namibia what are your procedures for dismissing students? Last year I applied to study and enrolled at Rundu Nursing College. After having passed the interviews and aptitude tests I was admitted and registered this year.
Two months have passed to our greatest surprise my classmate and I were informed to call our parents on 20/3/2009. In this meeting headed by the Regional Director of Ministry of Health and Hospital management, their intention was to call the parents and inform them that they are going to dismiss the 2 students, although admission requirements were met. The reason they gave was I am not an orphan as they meant to enrol orphans in our places. According to their definition an orphan is a child who lost both parents.
We requested them to put the dismissal in writing as the admission letter was in writing from the PS, Mr K. Kahuure’s office. Ministry of health what type of people do you classify as orphans? I consider myself an orphan as I lost one of my parents and am now being raised by my unemployed mother who strives hard to provide for me.
Recently there were students who joined the college without going through interviews as they are relatives of the Rundu Hospital Management staffs. Some of these students do not meet the requirements as they obtained 10 points in Grade 12, while our points are above 20 with science subjects. What are the requirements for enrolling Nursing students in this college?
The decision to dismiss the two students came from the Director.
Leaders of this country, where are you leading the youth? These are the fruits of an independent country that our parents fought for. We want answers with regard to the verbal dismissal. Anti Corruption Commission we call upon you to investigate the matter before it gets out of hand – we are now left on the streets, where to now? I feel that I have been deprived of the right to education.
