Dead man found in Walvis dunes

THE naked body of a man was found in the dunes near Walvis Bay on Thursday.

Detective Sergeant Julia Nujoma, public relations officer for the Erongo Police, told The Namibian that a member of the public found the body in the dunes about 3 km from the road between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, and about 5 km out of the harbour town. The person was “just strolling around in the desert” when he came across the body and was not considered to be a suspect, she said.A dark blue jacket and a single black shoe were lying next to the dead man’s naked body, Nujoma said. She said an autopsy would be done to determine the cause of death, but at this stage foul play is not suspected because the only footprints in the area belonged to the dead man and the person who found him.The man was a black Namibian, fairly young and about 1,72 m tall.Anyone with information that could help the Police should call the Walvis Bay Police at tel.21 9000.The person was “just strolling around in the desert” when he came across the body and was not considered to be a suspect, she said.A dark blue jacket and a single black shoe were lying next to the dead man’s naked body, Nujoma said. She said an autopsy would be done to determine the cause of death, but at this stage foul play is not suspected because the only footprints in the area belonged to the dead man and the person who found him.The man was a black Namibian, fairly young and about 1,72 m tall.Anyone with information that could help the Police should call the Walvis Bay Police at tel.21 9000.
