Dan Craven confirms annual youth camp

DAN Craven, Namibia’s top professional cyclist, this week confirmed that the 2012 Nedbank Craven Camp will be hosted at his hometown of Omaruru from February 10 to 12.

Craven said he will be on hand to coordinate the event, given that his new team – Team IG Sigma Sport in the UK – only requires him to join them for a training camp in the second half of February. Last year the camp could not be held due to Craven’s international commitments.’I am extremely happy to announce that Nedbank has confirmed their support as main sponsor for this year’s Craven Camp and therefore make this event possible,’ Craven said. ‘Especially after realising how negatively the event organisation impacted on my training in 2010, I decided I will only be able to host this camp with some assistance. ‘For this reason I brought on board Proactive Sports Marketing & Management to ensure the professional organisation, preparation and smooth running of this year’s camp.’Craven, who has qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games’ Road Race, will be sharing his experience with the camp participants during sessions held on and off the bicycle over three days. He will cover all aspects of cycling, including training methods, skills, tactics, nutrition, safety and the all-important life skills of a young adult. This year’s Nedbank Craven Camp is to be held on the weekend of February 10 to 12 to coincide with the Omaruru SPAR Cycle race – a perfect opportunity for the 25 selected riders between the ages of 15 and 23 to show off their newly acquired skills. Nedbank has been involved with Craven’s cycling development camp since 2010.
