Damara unity revived in Swakopmund

THE Ama ≠Nîsa ≠Nû-Khoen /Hai-Hab !Nans Din (meaning ‘Real proud Damaras of /Hai-Hab group’) was established in Swakopmund last year with the aim of uniting the Damara nation under one banner – the Ama ≠Nîsa ≠Nû-Khoen.

According to David Tono /Nuseb, who is a member of the group, the lost history of the Damara people should be recovered and brought again to the attention of the younger generation, and should also be kept alive for future generations.’We also want to revive the Damara traditions, and bring them back into everyday practice. Not just a show, but a fundamental part of our diverse Namibian culture,’ he said. The group also wants to encourage the involvement of all Damaras in the local economy. This will be done through training of people into important sectors, as well as to gain shares in Namibia’s economy.’One very important thing that people must realise is that the Ama ≠Nîsa ≠Nû-Khoen /Hai-Hab !Nans Din is not a politically-driven group. It’s got nothing to do with politics as we have seen in the past thThere are currently 24 members of the group, consisting of the old and younger generations of men and women, who all have a deep sense of bringing a revival to Damara unity in the face of political disunity. If you want to be part of this, or have any questions, feel free to contact Chairman, Lukas //Geiseb at 081 259 7362; or members David Tono /Nuseb at 081 255 2077; Isak ≠≠Auseb at 081 235 6315.
