THE site of Cymot’s new retail warehouse in Walvis Bay was officially handed over last week for construction work to start.
The N$20 million development is believed to be one of the biggest local investments in the harbour town. Cymot has 11 branches countrywide and employs over 300 people. This extension will be Cymot’s second facility in Walvis Bay, which not only promises the coastal community a wider scope of products and services offered by the company, but will give them a choice too.According to Cymot’s Managing Director, Axel Theissen, the demand for Cymot’s products and services is growing continuously, hence the need for a new warehouse. The development will be done in three phases and should be completed by June 2008.The company will be celebrating its 60th anniversary next year, and Theissen hopes the celebration and the official opening of the warehouse will coincide. The area to be developed is approximately 11 500 square metres and on the corner of Sam Nujoma Avenue and 18th Road in the town’s industrial area.Theissen said the new facility would have separate departments for Cymot’s four areas of business, namely Midas Motor Spares and Accessories, Greensport Camping, Fishing and Cycling, ToolTech Workshop Equipment and Tools, and NamSafe Personal Protective Equipment. The complex will also be divided into a wholesale and retail section.”One can describe it as a shop-in-shop concept, which will offer a friendly shopping experience for the whole family,” he said.”While dad is looking for tools and motor parts, mom and the kids can see what’s needed for that special camping occasion.”Cymot is totally Namibian and accommodates the BEE approach, which Theissen encourages other local companies to follow suit in order to maximise the benefits for Namibia as a whole.Cymot has 11 branches countrywide and employs over 300 people. The complex will also be divided into a wholesale and retail section.”One can describe it as a shop-in-shop concept, which will offer a friendly shopping experience for the whole family,” he said.”While dad is looking for tools and motor parts, mom and the kids can see what’s needed for that special camping occasion.”Cymot is totally Namibian and accommodates the BEE approach, which Theissen encourages other local companies to follow suit in order to maximise the benefits for Namibia as a whole.
