A NAMIBIAN Invitation XI thrashed the touring British Combined Services by 196 runs at the CCD Field in Windhoek this week.
Namibia posted a huge total of 323 for three wickets off their allotted 45 overs.
Raymond van Schoor once again top scored with 127 not out, which included seven fours and one six.
He put on 171 runs for the opening wicket with LP van der Westhuizen who was unlucky not to reach his century. Van der Westhuizen gave a powerful batting display, before being bowled for 92 off only 64 balls which included six sixes.
Deon Kotze weighed in with 24, Gerrie Snyman scored 28 and Craig Williams 19 not out.
The British Combined Services were soon in trouble as Craig Williams dismissed both openers, Upton (3) and Fulton (0) early on. Batley (30) and Cooper (25) gave some resistance while Webb top scored with 52, before being bowled by Wilbur Slabber.
Once they were out, Namibia’s bowlers cleaned up the tail as the visitors crashed from 4/113 to 127 all out.
Namibia’s top bowlers were Craig Williams, LP van der Westhuizen, Andrew Louw and Wilbur Slabber who each took two wickets.
The British Combined Services will play several more limited overs matches against Namibia’s senior team, with the first one coming up today.
FIRST DEFEAT
On Monday, the visiting British Combined Services cricket team suffered a comprehensive eight-wicket defeat to a Namibian Invitation team in Windhoek. The visitors were under pressure from the start, losing their opening batsmen early on. Upton was run out to a fine throw by Gerhard Rudolph, while captain Fulton was caught behind off the bowling of Louis Klazinga.
From then on wickets fell regularly as only three batsmen could reach double figures.
Lower order batsman Sanneck top scored with 37, as the visitors were all out for only 138 runs.
Klazinga was Namibia’s top bowler taking four wickets for 32 runs off 10 overs, while the young off spinner Bernard Scholtz returned the economical figures of three wickets for 18 runs off 10 overs. Another young spinner, LP van der Westhuizen was just as economical, taking one wicket for 18 runs off nine overs.
Namibia reached the target for the loss of only two wickets off only 31 overs.
LP van der Westhuizen was out for 39 and Gerhard Rudolph for 23, while Raymond van Schoor was not out on 69 and Gerrie Snyman not out on six. Snyman, in typical fashion, hit a six off the first ball he faced to win the match for Namibia.
The Namibian team consisted of a mixture of senior national players like Klazinga, Snyman and Craig Willaims and up and coming youngsters like Van der Westhuizen, Scholtz and Andrew Louw.
