Court charge for mother of abandoned little girl

THE Oshakati Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection with the abandonment of a two-year-old mentally retarded girl found near the Oshakati Airport two days before Christmas.

NamPol Liaison Officer Samuel Hamukonda said that the Police arrested Elestine Endjala (23) of Oshakati West last Sunday. Endjala, who was charged with child negligence, appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday According to Hamukonda, Endjala told the Police she had decided to abandon her daughter after her mother, who had been helping her look after the child, died, and Endjala could not look after the girl properly because she herself was still attending school .Someone had been looking after the child when she was out of the house, but Endjala said she had abandoned the girl in bush land near the airport while the care-taker was absent.The child is now in the care of health-care authorities at the Oshakati State Hospital.The case was adjourned until February 12 and Endjala was released on N$500 bail.- Own Reporter, NampaEndjala, who was charged with child negligence, appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday According to Hamukonda, Endjala told the Police she had decided to abandon her daughter after her mother, who had been helping her look after the child, died, and Endjala could not look after the girl properly because she herself was still attending school .
