PEOPLE wishing to support the ‘Great Walk Against Corruption’ tomorrow will have to be up bright and early, with buses departing for the starting point at 06h30.
The long-awaited march was the brainchild of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Women’s Action for Development (WAD), who aim to ‘shine the spotlight on the evil of corruption’ in Namibian society.’Since corruption is a very serious disease in any country from which not a single citizen is immune and from which every inhabitant of our country will suffer the consequences, it is incumbent upon the entire nation to take a firm stand, to demonstrate its rejection and to express its resolve to eradicate this evil in society,’ a joint ACC and WAD statement reads.The march, which will take place only in Windhoek, will start at the Nictus parking lot on Independence Avenue and will culminate in a ceremony and lunch at the Parliament Gardens.President Hifikepunye Pohamba is expected to be among the marchers and will deliver a speech at the event.Municipal buses will be available from the Moses Garoëb, Samora Machel, Soweto, Tobias Hainyeko, Katutura and Katutura Central Constituencies.The march will start at 08h00.
