PROMPT Police action, in which a newly acquired helicopter was used, resulted in the arrest of one suspect after a robbery at Namib Mills during the early hours of Friday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Theophillus Willem said two suspects broke into the premises of the Namib Mills at around 02h20, went straight to the guardroom and held the guard on duty at gunpoint before tying him up.A third one, who had a key to a company car, then joined them and they drove off in the company’s white Toyota Hilux, registration number N39812W with a canopy.Willem said the Police from Khomas and the Erongo regions immediately launched a joint operation, together with the air wing and the vehicle theft unit.’The vehicle was spotted by the Police helicopter while it was hidden in the bush some three kilometres east of Karibib in the field,’ he said.The canopy was removed and was found hidden in the Karibib location.Willem said Police arrested one of the suspects and will ‘soon’ arrest the other two as they were known to them.’The suspect was out on bail when he committed the crime,’ he said.
