CELL One launched a community football project at the UN Plaza in Windhoek on Friday.
The project will run during the holiday and at the kick-off were two teams who played a short five-a-side game in front of an excited crowd. Teams will be invited from the communities to play five-a-side football in an informal environment, the cellular operator said in a statement. This could be on fields, in parking lots and even in the street. What makes it exciting and unique is that it does not require grassed football pitches with standard goalposts.Mobile goalposts and an informal playing area make the game accessible to male or female players.A referee will be in charge.Cell One’s Chief Executive Officer, Lars-Christian Iuel, said Cell One was convinced that the community football project would bring football back into the communities over the holiday season.”Football is a well-loved sport throughout Namibia and Cell One community football activities will be hosted at Oshakati, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay during the holidays. The full programme will be available through the media to keep everyone informed of the venues and times.Get your teams together and watch out for the Cell One Football Community crew in your town,” he said.Teams will be invited from the communities to play five-a-side football in an informal environment, the cellular operator said in a statement. The full programme will be available through the media to keep everyone informed of the venues and times.Get your teams together and watch out for the Cell One Football Community crew in your town,” he said.
