CoD denies report that it suspended members in Caprivi

WINDHOEK – The Congress of Democrats (CoD) has dismissed reports in some media that it has axed some of its regional representatives in the Caprivi Region.

The CoD’s Secretary General, Kalla Gertze, told Nampa yesterday that there had been a misunderstanding about a statement issued by CoD President Ben Ulenga about a week ago. The statement distanced the party from any involvement in the revival of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Canu party in the Caprivi Region.”I do not know how the misunderstanding came up.Basically the statement’s main purpose was to clear up the doubt that there are some people in the Caprivi Region who are going around doing their activities or reviving these parties, and at the same time claiming that they are still members of CoD,” said Gertze. He said the two people alleged to have done so were no longer members of the CoD.”I was even surprised when people started calling our office asking why the party’s president expelled people.”But this is not the case, those people were not members of CoD and they have the right to be involved in other political activities,” he said.It was reported that two former members of CoD in the Caprivi Region, Crispin Matongo and Dasken Mulisa, as well as others, used the CoD’s name in their plans and activities to revive the UDP.In the statement, Ulenga said that CoD members involved in other political parties or organising events of that nature were automatically disqualified from being members of the CoD.NampaThe statement distanced the party from any involvement in the revival of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Canu party in the Caprivi Region.”I do not know how the misunderstanding came up.Basically the statement’s main purpose was to clear up the doubt that there are some people in the Caprivi Region who are going around doing their activities or reviving these parties, and at the same time claiming that they are still members of CoD,” said Gertze. He said the two people alleged to have done so were no longer members of the CoD.”I was even surprised when people started calling our office asking why the party’s president expelled people.”But this is not the case, those people were not members of CoD and they have the right to be involved in other political activities,” he said.It was reported that two former members of CoD in the Caprivi Region, Crispin Matongo and Dasken Mulisa, as well as others, used the CoD’s name in their plans and activities to revive the UDP.In the statement, Ulenga said that CoD members involved in other political parties or organising events of that nature were automatically disqualified from being members of the CoD.Nampa
