LONDON – Former US President Bill Clinton drew more than a thousand people Monday to his only scheduled book signing in Britain, and left many happy customers in his wake.
“He’s a democrat in the truest sense,” said London high school student Ashley Bowes, who waited almost four hours to meet Clinton alongside his politics teacher, Kevin Bloor. Bowes said he plowed through Clinton’s 957-page book in just three weeks.”I want to tell him to overturn the 22nd Amendment and get another turn in office.”Clinton’s autobiography, ‘My Life’, has sold more than 35 000 copies in the United Kingdom since its June 22 release, said Waterstone’s book store, which hosted the event.People began lining up on the city streets outside Waterstone’s shop in Piccadilly Circus more than 24 hours before his expected arrival.”I just think he’s a fantastic president – he turned America around,” said Valerie Henderson of London, who took the day off from work in hopes of meeting Clinton.”He has such charisma. If only we could bottle that and pass it around.”Taken into the store through a back entrance, Clinton was greeted by screams and camera flashes when he briefly greeted the crowd after his arrival. When the book signing was over, he and daughter Chelsea spent 20 minutes greeting people.Ana Nistal of Santander, Spain walked away from the signing table visibly shaking and almost unable to speak.”He was possibly the most powerful person in the world when he was president,” Nistal said.”He always seemed to care.”- Nampa-APBowes said he plowed through Clinton’s 957-page book in just three weeks.”I want to tell him to overturn the 22nd Amendment and get another turn in office.”Clinton’s autobiography, ‘My Life’, has sold more than 35 000 copies in the United Kingdom since its June 22 release, said Waterstone’s book store, which hosted the event.People began lining up on the city streets outside Waterstone’s shop in Piccadilly Circus more than 24 hours before his expected arrival.”I just think he’s a fantastic president – he turned America around,” said Valerie Henderson of London, who took the day off from work in hopes of meeting Clinton.”He has such charisma. If only we could bottle that and pass it around.”Taken into the store through a back entrance, Clinton was greeted by screams and camera flashes when he briefly greeted the crowd after his arrival. When the book signing was over, he and daughter Chelsea spent 20 minutes greeting people.Ana Nistal of Santander, Spain walked away from the signing table visibly shaking and almost unable to speak.”He was possibly the most powerful person in the world when he was president,” Nistal said.”He always seemed to care.”- Nampa-AP
