Civics relieve coach Mannetti

CIVICS has relieved its coach, Ricardo Mannetti, from his duties with immediate effect, the club announced in a press statement yesterday.
However, it said Mannetti would remain in the club as a member of the technical team.

This means that Mannettii, who took the club to second spot in the MTC Premiership last season, will not dish out instructions from the bench anymore, but his chairman, Helmuth Scharnowski, will be doing that job.Scharnowski confirmed to The Namibian Sport yesterday that he is moving in as the head coach and will be assisted by former Tigers coach Woody Jacobs.’I will take over from now on because there is a need for us to start doing things differently. We have not been too successful in our campaign thus far and the results speak for themselves. I believe that change is inevitable because it will only do us good in the long run,’ he said. The club stated that the management committee of Civics in consultation with their technical team agreed to restructure the technical department due to the poor results.Civics are currently languishing in ninth spot on the log with only one win from their seven matches, possibly one of their worst league runs in many seasons to date.They lost 2-1 to Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) on Friday night and this put more pressure on Mannetti who might be expected to put on his boots and help out the side in midfield, which has proven rather fragile in that department.The statement further reads that the management requests the Civics supporters to be patient ‘as it will only be a matter of time to reclaim their rightful position in the league’ and appeals to supporters not to lose hope and to continue to support the team. – corry@namibian.com.na
