CAPE TOWN – Sowetan columnist Eric Miyeni yesterday launched a scathing attack on City Press editor Ferial Haffajee for City Press’s articles about ANC Youth League president Julius Malema’s family trust.
In the column, ‘Haffajee does it for white masters’, Miyeni wrote, ‘Julius Malema must never answer a Ferial Haffajee. Who the devil is she anyway if not a black snake in the grass, deployed by white capital to sow discord among blacks?’Adding that ‘in the 80s she’d probably have had a burning tyre around her neck’.The column caused a tirade on Twitter with Haffajee tweeting ‘Decided: am going to sue, possibly win and put proceeds into bursary for talented young opinionistas. Good end to sorry saga.’Gus Silber tweeted: ‘He’s [Minyeni] actually, in a not very roundabout way, calling for someone’s necklacing. Even News24 commenters don’t go that far.’Last week Malema attempted to prevent City Press from publishing details about the trust fund. Malema’s urgent application for an interdict in the South Gauteng High Court was dismissed with costs.’…people like Haffajje… are most likely to be the kind that wakes up in the morning, sees their black faces in the mirror only to feel a wave of self-hatred rising up to nauseate them’, Minyeni said in the column. – News24
