Chinese Embassy Takes Issue

WE pay much attention to a report entitled “Prostitution thrives in Tibet, authorities turn blind eye” by Peter Harmsen of AFP, which was reprinted in your newspaper on September 2, 2005.

In that report, Tibet was referred to as a “country”, which had been “invaded” by the Chinese troops. The report also quoted a lot of so-called “information” from anti-China organizations such as the “Free Tibet Campaign” and “Tibet Information Network”.The “information” is baseless and fairly misleading to the world, including Namibia. The facts are that Tibet has been and still is an inalienable part of China, and has made great achievements in economic development over the past 40 years.Seeing is believing.Presently more and more people from outside of China are visiting Tibet and coming to understand that the real situation in Tibet is quite different from what is being reported in the western media. While we are celebrating the 40th birthday of the Tibet Autonomous Region, we want to challenge the western media’s real purpose of distorting the truth of Tibet.Meanwhile, it is our sincere hope that your newspaper will do more in the future to help the Namibian people get an objective and better understanding of China.Hu Aimin Information Officer Embassy of the People’s Republic of China * Note: This letter has been shortened – EdThe report also quoted a lot of so-called “information” from anti-China organizations such as the “Free Tibet Campaign” and “Tibet Information Network”.The “information” is baseless and fairly misleading to the world, including Namibia. While we are celebrating the 40th birthday of the Tibet Autonomous Region, we want to challenge the western media’s real purpose of distorting the truth of Tibet.Meanwhile, it is our sincere hope that your newspaper will do more in the future to help the Namibian people get an objective and better understanding of China.Hu Aimin Information Officer Embassy of the People’s Republic of China * Note: This letter has been shortened – Ed
