BRUSSELS – Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with European Union officials about the global financial crisis and climate change in an effort to heal strained political and economic ties.
Wen was also suppose to sign multimillion-euro cooperation agreements during his visit Friday to EU headquarters.
It is Wen’s first visit to Brussels in five years as Beijing aims to forge closer ties with the bloc despite disagreements over Tibet and human rights.
EU officials say European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso was expected to raise touchy subjects such as human rights.
China cancelled a summit with the EU a month ago to protest talks held between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Dalai Lama.
