Chiefs in hot water

KAIZER Chiefs can expect a call-up to the Premier Soccer League’s disciplinary committee after what appears to have been a childish display in the dressing room that forced the kick-off of Saturday’s Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium to start 15 minutes late.

The drama started before the kick-off when Chiefs goalkeeper, Arthur Bartman, wore a different coloured jersey from the one they had indicated they would play in. He eventually changed but the match was delayed while the matter was sorted out. But it made a mockery of the game.PSL CEO Kjetil Siem said: ‘We will wait for the referee’s report on the incident before making the next move.’But we are not happy with the delay which inconvenienced the television broadcasters, media and the fans.We hope this will be the first and last time of such an incident happens in the PSL.’Siem also slated the standard of the pitch. ‘Something has to be done about the pitch. It is simply not up to standard.’The plan will be to close down the Orlando Stadium and allow the grass to recover before it is used again by the two clubs, Chiefs and Pirates, who use it as a home ground.Saturday’s Soweto Derby ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw. The South African Football Association moved the Bafana Bafana versus Japan friendly international scheduled at the Orlando Stadium on November 14, to the Rand Stadium on the same day because of the poor pitch. – Nampa-Sapa
