Cell One reduces rates for international calls

CELL One yesterday announced it had reduced rates for international calls by 33 per cent.

The mobile phone company’s Corporate Communications Manager, Rejoice Itembu, said a large proportion of calls from the Cell One network were to international destinations, hence the need to lower rates for customers. She said since international tariffs were dependent on the agreement the company had with Telecom Namibia – which has a monopoly to route such calls – Cell One had renegotiated with Telecom and had arrived at a reduction of 33 per cent. She said the new rates would be applicable to all Cell One customers (contract and prepaid) when they make calls, while in Namibia, to any number on a network outside of Namibia (fixed or mobile).”This should not be confused with International Roaming where a Cell One customer travels to another country and is able to make and receive calls,” she said.According to Cell One, the southern-African sub-region was a popular call destination for many of its customers.Itembu says the new rates would enable customers to derive greater value for every dollar spent on calling an international destination. She said: “Cell One has promised to offer choice to the Namibian market, and this new competitive rate is one of many offerings that Cell One is introducing to help grow the Namibian mobile communications industry.”She said since international tariffs were dependent on the agreement the company had with Telecom Namibia – which has a monopoly to route such calls – Cell One had renegotiated with Telecom and had arrived at a reduction of 33 per cent. She said: “Cell One has promised to offer choice to the Namibian market, and this new competitive rate is one of many offerings that Cell One is introducing to help grow the Namibian mobile communications industry.”
