Call To Dissolve Parliament

Call To Dissolve Parliament

PLEASE allow me space in your reliable newspaper to express my opinion on the above-mentioned topic.

I am very much shocked by the ‘secret’ scheme of hefty home furniture allowances revealed by The Namibian newspaper, June 16 2004 that the Namibian politicians have awarded themselves last year. A decision document reportedly approved by the cabinet for furniture and entertainment allowances of the ruling, opposition parties and parliamentarians in the National Assembly and National Councils and their management committee, which ranges from N$625-00 to N$52-00 per month.Politicians should have known better that corruption and unethical practises in public governance lead to deterioration in the living standards of ordinary people whom they are supposed to represent. The way of spending money on unnecessary things like furniture and entertainment are the main causes of inflation that leads to high prices of goods, services, unemployment, poverty, crimes, political unrest and foreign debts. Our politicians have surprisingly joined forces in enriching themselves.Even opposition parties are playing the politics of patronage and politics of the belly while claiming to be watchdogs of the ruling party.Do the opposition parties only cry out when they are not benefiting from economic gambling? It seems the mandatory financial contribution made by all citizens has become a donation into a State Revenue Fund for the fat cats.Politicians are expected to perform their duties guided by the law, public interest and their conscience (Article 44) has reference. How do these politicians understand (Article 95 (f) (g) (j).Do they really have a concern for?1. The senior citizens whom they offer a mere N$300 while pumping the millions into their own pockets;2. The incapacitated indigent and disadvantaged who receive the social benefits and amenities from the resources of the state;3. Improving the level of nutrition, health and standards of living of the Namibian people? The 2004-5 state budget had reportedly allocated N$7 million for HIV/AIDS related activities, while a big chunk of N$77 million is for the new state house complex. The cabinet is showing signs of an unrepresentative nature.I am calling upon the President of Namibia, Sam Nujoma to dissolve the National Assembly with immediate effect, because the lawmakers are proving unable to govern effectively for the purpose of sustainable human centred development. The parliamentarians have taken an oath to be faithful to the republic of Namibia to uphold and defend the constitution (Article 55).The ordinary people cannot control this government anymore so the President must control the government in accordance with the Namibian constitution.Stefanus N Mvula OndangwaA decision document reportedly approved by the cabinet for furniture and entertainment allowances of the ruling, opposition parties and parliamentarians in the National Assembly and National Councils and their management committee, which ranges from N$625-00 to N$52-00 per month.Politicians should have known better that corruption and unethical practises in public governance lead to deterioration in the living standards of ordinary people whom they are supposed to represent.
