THE Swakopmund Municipality has built a second market place at Mondesa for food vendors.

Deputy Mayor Miriam Valombola yesterday opened the venue, built at a cost of N$441 000, saying her Council was keen to advance the development of the community, especially the formerly disadvantaged. “Council has therefore taken a decision to start with the development of facilities that would enable the community to uplift their standards, especially vendors who will be able to sell their foodstuffs in more hygienic conditions.”The 41 stalls, rented out at a rate of N$30 a month, or N$1 a day, are already fully occupied.Valombola said Council would also look at establishing an open market where a variety of items could be sold and that could become a tourist attraction as well.”The time has come to attract more tourists to areas excluded from their itineraries.””Council has therefore taken a decision to start with the development of facilities that would enable the community to uplift their standards, especially vendors who will be able to sell their foodstuffs in more hygienic conditions.”The 41 stalls, rented out at a rate of N$30 a month, or N$1 a day, are already fully occupied.
