Burglars attack couple in bed

AT least three violent attackers are on the loose after severely beating up a Pionierspark couple and leaving them for dead on Friday.

The man, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of a follow-up attack, sustained such serious head injuries that he lost consciousness and had to get 12 stitches. His girlfriend also required stitches because of a deep cut to her head.According to the man, he woke up at about 02h00 on Friday morning. ‘As I woke up, they started beating me. I must’ve lost consciousness because when I woke up again, they had left.’A bloodstained brick, believed to have been used by the attackers, was found in the riverbed near the house in this affluent area.The attackers gained entry to the property by forcing open a locked gate. Once they were on the yard, they broke into the house through a window.They fled with three cellphones, the couple’s wallets, the woman’s handbag, a digital camera, an iPod and two gym bags. One of the bags, containing books, was later found in the riverbed, the victim said.The man said yesterday afternoon that he still felt unsafe – especially since no arrest had been made yet.’I still feel unsafe in my own home. The trauma is something else that we will need to overcome.’
