MBABANE – Instead of making off with loot after breaking into a house in central Swaziland, a burglar decided to stick around and fry 16 eggs while the owner slept peacefully in her bed.
Sanele Manana (30) of Mpolonjeni, about 5 kilometres outside the capital, broke into Sisana Gwebu’s home in the middle of the night.Appearing in the Mbabane national court before court president Johannes Cindzi, Manana said he was hungry and decided to have a little grub before he left the house.’I used a knife to open the window and enter the house. I grabbed a pot, found 30 eggs and decided to fry 16 of them right there,’ he said.After frying the eggs, he loaded them, along with a loaf of bread, sausages, tea-bags and the remaining eggs, into a school bag belonging to Gwebu’s child and left.He was arrested the next day and appeared in court. He pleaded guilty to a charge of house breaking and theft and was sentenced to R220, or 11 months in jail.- African Eye
